William M. Buckler was born on February 8, 1844, in Kentucky to William G and Elizabeth (Goodrum) Buckler.

 

On February 10, 1865, at the age of 21, William M. Buckler enlisted in Company E, 66th Illinois Infantry. He mustered in the next day at Danville, Illinois, and mustered out on July 7, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky with his older brother, Green B Buckler. Their father, William G Buckler, also served in the American Civil War.

 

William married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Jane Jennings on October 5, 1881 at Edgar, Illinois. They had seven children during their marriage.

It wasn't until January 12, 1885, that William applied for and was granted a pension for his service in the Civil War. 

 

William died on September 27, 1921 in Metcalf, Edgar, Illinois, at the age of 77. After his death, his widow, Lizzie, applied for and was granted a widow's pension on October 7, 1921.
